Grant Park

A much sought-after address for young families to active retirees, Grant Park is home to Atlanta's largest historic district, as well as its generously shaded, namesake park. The first of its kind in the city, the sprawling Grant Park was donated by railroad magnate L.P. Grant.

His mansion home—birthplace of another local icon, golfer Bobby Jones—is one of just four antebellum houses remaining not only in Grant Park, but in all of Atlanta. It’s now home to the Atlanta Preservation Center, where you can book a tour of the neighborhood’s legendary haunts.

At the northern edge of Grant Park you’ll find Historic Oakland Cemetery, resting place of movers and shakers like Gone with the Wind author Margaret Mitchell, along with beautiful rare blooms and countless stories from days gone by. The Victorian-style cemetery is fitting for a neighborhood filled with homes from the era, featuring wide porches, intricate trim and bright, inviting colors. Another reason we’re wild about Grant Park? It’s the perfect habitat for Zoo Atlanta, where majestic lions roar every morning. Now, that’s our kind of wake-up call.
