Just south of Downtown and Georgia State’s football stadium, Peoplestown feels a bit like a suburb in the city, dotted with welcoming parks and full of families and young professionals who flock to its affordable Queen Annes, Craftsmans and Folk Victorians.

Named for the influential Peoples family, this streetcar suburb was once home to one of Atlanta’s most fashionable streets, the Washington-Rawson District. Formerly segregated, today Peoplestown is one of Atlanta’s most diverse neighborhoods, making a comeback after defeating the I-485 highway project that demolished some of the area’s homes and businesses.

While redevelopment began in 1996, the BeltLine Southside Trail’s connection to the 8-acre D.H. Stanton Park is giving the community some serious momentum. Transition is also being spurred along by Georgia State’s future basketball stadium and the Beacon, a collection of rehabbed industrial buildings home to Artist’s Cove, Elsewhere Brewing, Eventide Brewing, Pin & Proper, Zoo Bar and Buteco.
